NOTE:
The background of this Gilīm is adorned with an abundance of flowers. The finesse of the texture stands out as a distinctive feature of Gilīm weaving, and this particular example exemplifies one of the most exquisite Persian Gilīms. The design features weaving of angels and winged beings, characterized by bodies that are half human and half animal. This unique blend of human and animal elements has been a popular motif in Persian art, both preceding and following Islam in Iran.
Gilīm weaving in Iran boasts a rich historical heritage, with roots tracing back to the time of Achaemenid Darius the Great. The delicate craftsmanship and enduring motifs in this Gilīm reflect the enduring artistic traditions woven into the fabric of Persian culture.
