NOTE:
This carpet showcases the exquisite central medallion or “Toranj” design, a hallmark of Persian carpet craftsmanship. Notably, it employs the Persian knot technique, though it hails from Azerbaijan. Adorning both sides of the central “Toranj twenty-four points” are two distinct “Toranj” motifs. Inside the central “Toranj” woven a octagon pattern reminiscent of an abstract “Howz” or pool. Within this octagonal pool, eight ducks gracefully emerge, while around its perimeter, subtle animal motifs resembling rabbits can be discerned upon close inspection. Flanking the outer “Toranj” are depictions of lions in pursuit of oxen, adding dynamic movement to the composition. Inside the outer “Toranj”, two majestic peacocks face each other, further enhancing the carpet’s allure. The border design is particularly noteworthy, with motifs mirroring each other on both sides yet differing in color scheme, lending visual symmetry to the piece. The rich coloring of the carpet, predominantly featuring red wool, resonates with the popular aesthetic of the Azerbaijan region.
